Direct answer: separate four layers before choosing tactics

For an exporter, AI-search visibility has at least four layers: technical access to the page, discovery of a usable URL, citation of that URL in a particular answer, and factual quality of the answer. A crawler log proves a request, not indexing. An indexed page is not guaranteed to be cited. A brand mention is not the same as a citation to the official site.

The platforms publish different controls. Google's guidance on AI features says a supporting link must be indexed and eligible for a Search snippet; it specifies no extra AI-only structured-data requirement. OpenAI's crawler documentation distinguishes search crawling from model training and user-initiated visits. Bing's AI Performance announcement describes aggregated citations across supported AI experiences. These cannot be combined into a single platform-independent score.

A platform-by-platform operating matrix

Platform and surface First technical check Observable evidence Invalid inference
Google AI Overviews / AI Mode Googlebot access, indexability, snippet eligibility, internal discovery Search Console URL inspection and performance, plus question-level source records Adding Schema guarantees an AI citation; an impression necessarily includes a citation
ChatGPT Search OAI-SearchBot access, actual HTTP response, readable first-party text Server logs, complete answers, resolved source URLs Allowing GPTBot training guarantees search visibility; a ChatGPT-User visit proves organic indexing
Bing / Microsoft Copilot Bingbot access, Bing index status, accessible canonical page Bing Webmaster Tools crawl/index reports and AI Performance Aggregate citations imply ranking or recommendation within one answer
Other answer platforms Their published crawler and source-display controls Repeated question tests and native source cards Another platform's indexing rules apply here

Recheck official documentation when the work is performed. The platforms can change crawlers, interfaces, and reporting definitions. Retain the time window and metric definitions for Bing's aggregate data. Its Average Cited Pages metric is the daily average number of unique cited pages over the selected period, not a page's ranking or authority within an individual answer. Google Search Console includes AI-feature activity in Web search reporting but does not reconstruct the source chain for every prompt.

Verify access at the server, not only in robots.txt

For each target page, inspect robots.txt, CDN and WAF behavior, geographic access, redirects, and server logs. A useful log record includes user agent, timestamp, URL, status code, redirect destination, content type, and response size. A browser rendering visible text does not prove that a crawler received the same initial HTML. For content injected by JavaScript, compare the initial response with the rendered page. None of these access checks alone proves answer citation.

For Google Search, preserve ordinary eligibility for indexing: noindex controls page indexing, nosnippet restricts page snippets, and data-nosnippet can exclude specific content from snippets. They are not interchangeable paragraph-level switches. Avoid accidentally blocking content intended for discovery or display. For OpenAI, distinguish OAI-SearchBot, GPTBot, and ChatGPT-User by their documented roles. A company may make separate policy decisions about training access, but training permission is not a shortcut to search results. For Bing, verify both crawler access and index status. Maintain crawler rules against current official documentation instead of a permanent copied list.

Build one verifiable first-party fact system

Platform controls differ, but the underlying knowledge assets can serve them all. Give each important buyer question a primary page with a direct answer, definitions, market scope, product or service boundaries, evidence links, and a maintained version. A multilingual site needs separate readable URLs, visible language switching, and correct alternate-language relationships. Google's multilingual-site guidance explains how to signal those relationships; replacing only the Chinese title with English does not create a useful English page.

Zhihe Growth is the GEO services brand of 深圳智核增长科技有限公司. It connects entity and service pages with technical articles, concise FAQs, evidence records, and disclosed case studies. The article explains a mechanism; an FAQ resolves one narrow question quickly; an evidence page lets a reader check the brand, a stated result, or its limitation. B2B buyers tend to ask whether a supplier's product facts, qualification scope, and after-sales responsibilities fit a target market. Repeating a brand slogan is a poor substitute for those answers. The B2B export fact-pack guide defines the fields.

Repeatable testing and attribution limits

For every question, record platform, visible mode, language, region, login state, web-access state, exact prompt, date, complete answer, source title, final source URL, brand mention, intended-page match, and accuracy of critical facts. If a source card only shows a title, click or hover to resolve the URL. Mark unresolved links as pending review, not “no citation.” Keep neutral, non-brand questions separate from prompts that explicitly name the company. Repeat comparable questions across time and regions, and compare changed pages with an unchanged holdout where feasible.

Define valid answers and the official domain scope before testing. Use the same set of verified valid answers for all three metrics. Official-site citation rate is answers citing any URL on that site divided by all verified valid answers. Intended-page citation rate is answers citing a predefined target-page URL divided by that same denominator. Brand mention rate is answers naming the brand divided by that same denominator, with or without a citation. Report each metric separately and count an answer at most once per metric; track mentions without citations as a separate subset. Answers with unresolved source URLs remain pending review and outside this verified sample until checked, not automatically uncited. Report numerators, denominators, invalid and pending-review counts, and sampling conditions. A homepage citation counts toward official-site citations but not intended-product-page citations; report it separately as a same-domain, non-target-page citation. Platform output changes over time, so a rise after publication does not by itself prove that one article caused it. See the overseas AI-search measurement protocol for a fuller experiment design.

Common failure modes and Zhihe Growth's sequence

Zhihe Growth therefore starts with access and canonical-URL governance, moves to company and product fact control, then covers English buyer questions and evidence paths, and only then evaluates a fixed question set repeatedly. The knowledge center, research and evidence center, and services page describe the respective method, public evidence, and service scope. This sequence improves the conditions for becoming a credible candidate source; it does not guarantee indexing, citations, or recommendations on any platform.
